POST-GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN THE TEACHING OF ENGLISH
 
This in-service 3 month course is for trained graduate / post-graduate teachers of English, working in secondary and senior secondary schools in the northern region. Each course has a provision for about 50 participants. This includes a few seats for the would-be teachers. Training is conducted through lectures and tutorials supplemented by intensive practice in communication skills and teaching skills. The course content is based on contemporary research and innovative techniques of teaching English as a second language.

  1.    English stress patterns system, nature and scope of English Language
2.    Phonetics & Phonology – understanding the sound and stress patterns of the        language
3.     Grammar (Morphology, Syntax) – understanding the word and sentence structure
 
Communication Skills of trainees
  1. Skills of English (L, S, R, W)
2. Elements of English (Grammar and Vocabulary)
3. Presentation & Performance Skills
 
Research and Material Production
  1. Computer Skills (MS Office, Internet)
2. Writing Manuals / Making Films, etc.
 
 
Admission
 
Eligiblity for the course
 
The course is open to teachers of English from government and private schools of Panjab, Haryana , Jammu and Kashmir , Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Others from this region who aspire to become teachers of English are also eligible provided they possess the following qualifications:
 
Either

MA in English

Or

BA / BEd (with teaching of English as one of the subjects)

The District Education Officers of the various states recommend the names of teachers to be sent for training. The nominations are routed through the Director, Public Instruction (Schools) of the respective states. Would-be-teachers can apply directly on the prescribed proforma. Their admission is subject to:
 
a)  number of seats available
b)  qualifying interview
 
A COURSE IN SOFT SKILLS FOR ITES-BPO SECTOR ASPIRANTS
 

This is a 90-hour programme consisting of 9 modules to develop skilled professionals for the ITES-BPO sector. The course aims at imparting training in Communication skills, Interpersonal skills, and Computer skills to the job seekers.

Admission

The number of seats for the course is 20 and the fee for the course is Rs.3000/- per head.
