Samagra Shiksha Courses
The Institute organizes short-term courses for primary school teachers in collaboration with SSA (Samagra Shiksha), Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana annually. The basic aim of the program is to encourage independence of thought and action and learn to respond to new situations in a flexible and creative manner. The teachers are taught new methodologies in the field of teaching English in ten-day workshops keeping in mind the regulations and guidelines set down by the NCF. The Institute provides teachers with manuals to guide them to use the recommended textbooks more effectively.
The Institute also organizes short-term courses for secondary school teachers in collaboration with RMSA (Samagra Shiksha), Chandigarh. The basic aim of the program is to encourage independence of thought and action, learning to respond to new situations in a flexible and creative manner and enhance pedagogical skills. The training program aims at introducing the participants to the latest trends, approaches and practices being undertaken by the national-level agencies and authorities in the field of teaching English and especially reading skills.
Communicative Competency Course
The main objective of this week-long course is to enhance the communicative competence of the English Language teachers. Various components such as linguistic competency (vocabulary, grammar, and syntax), social linguistic competency (classroom language), strategic and discourse competency etc. are taken into consideration while drafting the course content.
Key Resource Persons’ Program
A seven-day training program of Key Resource Persons in core reading strategies at primary level in the light of NCF 2005 is a venture of RIE in collaboration with ELTAI (English Language Teachers’ Association of India). The overall objective of this program is to provide teachers with a practical component in ‘learner-centered’ methodology, focusing on language improvement.
