Courses Admission Procedure

M.A. English (Co-educational)

The Institute started M.A. English course (affiliated to Punjab University, Chandigarh) from July 2010. It is one of the few Institutes in the region where MA English students have a Language Lab, with 1:1 student-computer ratio, allotted exclusively to them with language software and round-the-clock internet services.

The admission in MA (English) for each academic year usually starts in the first week of July through Online Centralized Admission Process conducted by the Education Department, Chandigarh Administration. The programmme has semester system and admission is given on the basis of counselling conducted at the Institute.

  • July 10,2019 – July 23, 2019 (without late fee)
  • July 11,2019 and July 12 ,2019
  • July 24, 2019 to August 13, 2019 (with late fee of Rs 560 with the permission of DRIE)
  • August 14, 2019 to August 31, 2019 (with late fee of Rs 2040 with the permission of the VC, PU)
  • Final Merit List on 15th July

  • X Mark Sheet in original and self-attested photocopies
  • XII Mark Sheet in original and self-attested photocopies

  • Migration Certificate if applicable (May write an undertaking on the day of counselling if result not declared till that date)
  • Certificate/Affidavit of identity if claiming any kind of reservation for admission

Postgraduate Certificate in the Teaching of English (PGCTE)

This 3-month In-Service course is for trained graduate/post-graduate teachers of English, working in secondary and senior secondary schools in the northern region. Each course has a provision for 50 participants. Training is conducted through lectures and tutorials supplemented by intensive practice in Communication Skills and Methods of Teaching English. The course aims at imparting knowledge of the structure of English through Linguistics, Phonetics and Phonology and Contemporary Grammar and Usage of English along with enhancing Computer Skills of the trainees. The course also aims at sensitizing the participants to the importance of research leading to Material Production (print and video) that can be readily used in the classrooms.

Eligibility for the Course:

For Teacher-trainees:   Regular Teacher/Lecturer serving in Govt. Schools of Punjab/Haryana/HP/J&K/Chandigarh
Open Candidates:  Either MA (English) or B.Ed. (with English as one of the teaching subjects)

The admission in the course is given on first cum first served basis as the seats are limited. The prospectus is sold in first week of July for the Open Candidates. For Teacher -trainees, a nomination from the respective State DPI(S)/DEO is required.

The first batch of the PGCTE Course usually starts in the third week of July and ends in mid-November. The second batch starts in October and ends in February.

The first thirteen weeks of the course are conducted Face to Face i. e, the trainees attend the classes at the Institute premises. The next five weeks are conducted in the Online Mode i.e, the trainees go to their respective states and complete the course through the Online Platform available at After the completion of the course, the trainees are given grades according to their performance in the Online Mode.
