A significant addition to the functioning of the Institute's academic wing is focus on research projects.The Institute collaborates with universities, the Central Institute of English and Foreign languages (Hyderabad), CBSE, NCTE, NCERT and the British Council in a number of research projects and training programmes.

The ongoing projects for the current academic session are:

CIEFL- RIEs- ELTIs PRIMARY SCHOOL PROJECT

The objective of CIEFL- RIEs- ELTIs Primary School Project is to survey the situations as it exists with the introduction of English at the Primary level in Non-English Medium Schools in India .

In the light of the above objective the project aims at

  • assessing the classroom interaction, learner and teacher strengths in addition to the materials used to promote acquisition of language skills
  • evaluating the status of English in the context of other languages as well as the entire education programme
  • understanding socio-economic factors along with cultural and geographical distribution in introducing English at different stages in non-English medium primary school level in different parts of the country.
 

Supplementary Material Production for Undergraduates of Panjab University


Incharge: Bindu Bajwa

The project aims at

  • incorporating language development through the textbooks prescribed by the Panjab University, Chandigarh
  • standardizing the approach to teaching of English at the undergraduate level by focussing on language skills

A group of lecturers drawn from the colleges of Chandigarh Administration are currently engaged in producing support material for use in classrooms at the undergraduate level.

 

Reading and English Acquisition Programme - REAP

 

In-charge : Revathi Srinivas

This project is in collaboration with the SSA, UT Chandigarh. The objective of this project is to

  • enable young learners of government model and non-model schools of UT Chandigarh in developing reading habits.
  • learners are encouraged to read stories in English everyday and discuss the key issues of the story.

The project was launched in 41 model schools targeting 3478 learners. This academic year it is being introduced in all the government model and non-model schools.

 

 

Material Production in Developing Communication Skills for students of Polytechnic Colleges, Directorate of Technical Education, Haryana

 

In charge: Revathi Srinivas

The project aims at

  • designing syllabus in Communication Skills for all the six semesters of polytechnic colleges of Haryana
  • developing material according to the syllabus prepared
  • training English lecturers in handling the course material
 

English Language Improvement Programme - ELIPS

 
In charge : Revathi Srinivas
 

This project is run in collaboration with the SSA, UT Chandigarh. The project aims at

  • developing interactive teaching and learning material based on the textbooks prescribed for Class I & II
  • A primer is prepared for Class I of government model and non-model schools

A team of 24 teachers are drawn from various model and non-model schools to produce material appropriate to the needs and level of the learners.
